Louis Dowdeswell is widely recognised as one of the most exciting trumpet players of his generation, performing and recording with major artists including Michael Bublé, Al Jarreau, Gregory Porter and countless others. His powerful sound, high-note ability and innovative approach to music education have made him a leading voice in modern brass.
Now you have a rare chance to live and study alongside Louis for an entire week, enjoying individual and group lessons and relaxed conversations over meals—creating a depth of mentoring rarely found on other courses.
All in the magnificent setting of Spain's Sierra Nevada mountains.
Louis combines world-class trumpet ability with a rare gift for teaching. His approach blends modern technique, musical expression and practical problem-solving, offering players a clear route to stronger, easier and more confident trumpet playing. This is learning directly from someone who genuinely loves helping others progress.
With a maximum of only 6/7 students on this residential course, tuition is tailored to suit individual needs and abilities in a safe and comfortable environment where we support and help each other to improve. There'll be no judgment and no competitiveness.

The Course
The week caters for players of all abilities, from intermediate upwards. Whether you've been playing for years or are returning after a break, the relaxed and individually tailored approach means that you will see real progress over the course of the week.
Tuition will be a mixture of group and individual sessions and we will explore a range of skills to improve your playing and musicianship, such as:

In addition, in the evening after dinner we can all relax and talk about whatever comes up. It can be music related or not. We will, however, offer a range of short talks on topics like:

Mindfulness
But if you'd prefer you can just relax, have a drink and ask questions in an informal environment. The house has a number of communal areas so you're free to join in or chill out somewhere else. Whatever you feel like.
There is space for non-playing partners to stay and there are plenty of places for them to explore while you are playing during the day.
Or they can just relax by the pool.....
For partners or for free time there is so much to do locally. The village of Monachil is a 10 minute walk and is a typical Andalusian village with a selection of great restaurants and bars. The house is on the route of the Los Cahorras gorge walk with its famous hanging bridges, and the historic city of Granada and the stunning Alhambra Palace are just 20 minutes away by bus from the village.
